COURSE OVERVIEW

This bundle offers two, NYC Department of Buildings-Approved SST courses including 10 hours of prescribed (required) training that can be applied towards the requirements of a Site Safety Training (SST) Card.

THESE ARE AWARENESS-LEVEL TRAINING COURSES ONLY and do not provide any other qualifications or authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card.

Audience: Any personnel that may be exposed to heights or work around fall hazards on construction sites. This curriculum is also a prescribed (required) course that can help fulfill the requirement for an individual applying for a Site Safety Training Card.

NYC DOB REQUIREMENT:

8-HOUR FALL PREVENTION

Local Law 196 of 2017 requires certain Workers and Supervisors to receive safety training at construction sites that are required to designate a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator, or Site Safety Manager. By September 1, 2020, workers will need a total of 40 hours of training to qualify for a Site Safety Training (SST) card.

8-Hour Fall Prevention: 0.8

2-Hour Drug & Alcohol Awareness: 0.2

​​To earn a certificate of completion and a permanent card, student must do the following:

  1. 100% attendance for the 10-hour prescribed SST course package: 10 hours of total instruction time

  2. Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form

  3. Active participation in all class exercises (determined by instructor)

  4. Completion of required quiz assessment

  5. As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score (70%) on required end-of-course examination

  6. Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)

  7. Make up time is not allowed. Students who miss time from any individual session must reschedule and attend the full training course.

PREREQUISITE: This course package is appropriate for individuals who meet the qualifications of a Worker or Supervisor under Local Law 196. For more information on Local Law 196, click here. Participants need to be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in. Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health, prior to enrolling in this course.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

8-HOUR FALL PREVENTION

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 

  1. Understand the statistics of fatal fall and how they are the most common cause of death in construction

  2. Understand competent persons responsibilities

  3. Describe Types of fall Hazards

  4. Understand the equation force = Mass x Acceleration

  5. Describe the components, specifications, and regulatory requirements of fall controls

  6. Understand Struck-by and fall-to-the-same level controls

  7. Describe the components, specifications regulatory requirements, including New York City chapter 33, section 3315.1

LEARNING OUTCOMES

2-HOUR DRUG & ALCOHOL AWARENESS

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 

  1. Understand that dependence disorders can happen to normal people (erase stigma)

  2. Describe illicit use of drugs and the effects of drugs and alcohol in workplaces

  3. Understand the effects of drug and alcohol use in the construction industry

  4. Describe the impact and effects of drug and alcohol use on construction sites and in personal life.

  5. Explain various drugs and their effects on the human body.

  6. Explain relevant information concerning alcohol use and its effects on the human body.

  7. Understand prevention and control of drugs and alcohol in the workplace

  8. Understand adverse synergistic use of drugs along with alcohol

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

A plethora of methods will be used, such as auditory and visual methods to ensure learning. This includes the program’s PowerPoint, related lectures, testing, and classroom discussions.

COURSE COMPLETION CARD
