32-HOUR RIGGING SUPERVISOR

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This 32 hour rigging training course will provide individuals with a strong understanding on how to supervise and coordinate rigging crews and rigging equipment setup. An emphasis will be placed on proper rigging techniques, how to inspect rigging equipment, proper load amounts, how to calculate the center of gravity to apply proper rigging hitches and OSHA and DOB regulations.

Audience: This training is geared for construction foremen, riggers, safety supervisors, rigging inspectors, and personnel in charge of rigging operations not hired directly by a licensed rigger.

NYC DOB REQUIREMENT:

32-HOUR RIGGING SUPERVISOR

As per 3316.9.2.1 of the 2014 NYC Construction Codes, this course is required by the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) for individuals who supervise workers attaching or detaching articles from the hook of hoisting equipment and signalpersons communicating with such in New York City.

CEU REQUIREMENTS

  1. 100% attendance for this 32 hour supervisor advanced rigging training course: 32 hours of instruction time

  2. Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form

  3. Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)

  4. Completion of required pre-and post-quiz assessment

  5. As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score on required end-of-course examination

  6. Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand hazards relating to rigging and how to prevent them.

  2. Understand how to inspect rigging equipment in compliance with OSHA and ASME standards.

  3. Identify equipment capacities, hitch configurations, and basic knots

  4. Calculate the weight of loads in order to find center of gravity

  5. Understand signaling used during rigging operations

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

A plethora of methods will be used, such as auditory, visual and kinesthetic methods to ensure learning. This includes the program’s PowerPoint, related lectures, testing/quizzing, hands-on activities, and classroom discussions.
