4-HOUR SST ELECTIVE PACKAGE

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This bundle offers four NYC Department of Buildings-Approved Site Safety Training (SST) courses including 2 hours of general and 2 hours of specialized electives training that can be applied towards the requirements of an SST or Supervisor SST Card. THIS IS AN AWARENESS-LEVEL TRAINING ONLY and does not provide any other qualification or authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card.

Audience: Curriculum for Supervisors employed in NYC within the Five Boroughs on projects requiring a Construction Super, Site Safety Manager, Site Safety Coordinator, Concrete Safety Manager, or Competent Person.

NYC DOB REQUIREMENT:

Local Law 196 of 2017 requires certain workers and supervisors to receive safety training at construction sites that are required to designate a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager.

CEU REQUIREMENTS

  1. 100% attendance for the course: 4 hours of instruction time

  2. Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form

  3. Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)

  4. Completion of required pre-and post-quiz assessment

  5. As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score on required end-of-course examination

  6. Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)

  7. Make up time is not allowed. Students who miss time from any individual session must reschedule and attend the full training course.

PREREQUISITE: Participants need to be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1-HOUR FIRST AID & CPR

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Describe a medical emergency 

  2. Understand the need to know the location of first aid kits and hazard communication information 

  3. Understand requirements to have First Aid and the ability to administer such procedures

  4. Describe cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

  5. Describe personal fitness and fitness for duty

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1-HR PROTECTION FROM SUN EXPOSURE

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Describe risk factors, symptoms, and treatment best practices for the most common sun- and heat-related health disorders

  2. Identify situations that create additional risks for sun/heat exposure

  3. Apply controls to prevent or minimize sun- and heat-related health risks on job sites

  4. Apply ACGIH’s screening criteria for TLV and Action Limit for Heat Stress

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1-HOUR CONFINED SPACE ENTRY

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify examples of confined spaces and the major hazards associated with confined spaces

  2. Recognize that OSHA has strict requirements for confined spaces in construction, which are found in 29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA

  3. Describe the major difference between a confined space and a permit-required confined space

  4. Understand that only select, trained, and authorized persons may enter permit required confined spaces

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1-HOUR FLAG PERSON

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Explain the purpose of and need for flagging operations

  2. Describe the components of a successful flagging operation

  3. Differentiate responsibilities for crew members & supervisors during flagging operations

  4. Identify proper equipment and PPE for flagging operations

  5. Explain various flagger responsibilities for different kinds of worksites

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

A plethora of methods will be used, such as auditory, visual and kinesthetic methods to ensure learning. This includes the program’s PowerPoint, related lectures, testing/quizzing, hands-on activities, and classroom discussions.
