4-HOUR CONFINED SPACE AWARENESS

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Confined Space Awareness course is designed to educate students’ working in the vicinity of confined spaces on key safety hazards, methods of controlling those hazards, elements of confined space programs, emergency procedures and training requirements. Students will become familiar with examples of confined spaces and associated hazards found in both general industry and construction worksites. 

Note that this training does not meet OSHA’s site-specific confined space training requirements. It is intended to serve only as a basic awareness course for students that may work around confined spaces and is NOT intended for those workers who are required to enter a confined space.

Audience: Any individual who may work near confined spaces.

CEU REQUIREMENTS

  1. 100% attendance for confined space course: 4 hours of instruction time

  2. Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form

  3. Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)

  4. Completion of required pre-and post-quiz assessment

  5. As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score on required end-of-course examination

  6. Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)

  7. Make up time is not allowed. Students who miss time from any individual session must reschedule and attend the full training course.

PREREQUISITE: Participants need to be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify criteria for confined spaces and permit-required confined spaces

  2. List four main hazards that may exist in permit-required confined spaces

  3. Describe at least one hazard control method for each of four main confined space hazards

  4. Discuss duties of confined space entry team (supervisor, attendant, entrant)

  5. Apply OSHA training requirements to site specific conditions

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

A plethora of methods will be used, such as auditory, visual and kinesthetic methods to ensure learning. This includes the program’s PowerPoint, related lectures, testing/quizzing, hands-on activities, and classroom discussions. More specifically, the class will include videos and demonstration of equipment used in confined spaces such as personal fall arrest systems used on construction sites.
