2-HOUR REASONABLE SUSPICION
FOR SUPERVISORS – DRUG & ALCOHOL

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this training is to teach supervisors to identify circumstances and indicators that may create reasonable suspicion that a driver is using or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, supporting referral of an employee for testing. 49 CFR 382.603 is the applicable regulation requiring supervisors of commercial motor vehicle drivers who operate vehicles that require a commercial driver license to take 60 minutes of training on the symptoms of alcohol abuse and another 60 minutes of training on the symptoms of controlled substances use (120 minutes in total). This training satisfied requirements as per U.S. Dept. of Transportation.

CEU REQUIREMENTS

  1. 100% attendance for reasonable suspicion course: 2 hours of instruction time

  2. Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form

  3. Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)

  4. Completion of required pre-and post-quiz assessment

  5. As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score on required end-of-course examination

  6. Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)

  7. Make up time is not allowed. Students who miss time from any individual session must reschedule and attend the full training course.

PREREQUISITE: Participants need to be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  2. Understand substance abuse effects

  3. Identify signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol abuse

  4. Summarize the process of reasonable suspicion testing

  5. Properly document a reasonable suspicion test

  6. Summarize the appropriate process to conduct a reasonable suspicion test.

  7. Thoroughly understand a supervisor's responsibility of an employee and when to conduct an appropriate reasonable suspicion test.

A plethora of methods will be used, such as auditory, visual and kinesthetic methods to ensure learning. This includes the program’s PowerPoint, related lectures, testing/quizzing, hands-on activities, and classroom discussions.
